Microdermabrasion
Overview
In 2004, nearly 1.1 million Microdermabrasion treatments were performed
in America at an average cost of $196. These statistics come from
the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). This
makes Microdermabrasion the second most popular non-invasive cosmetic
procedure in the country.
If you are considering Microdermabrasion, the following information
will give you a basic understanding of the procedure. It can’t
answer all your questions, since a lot depends on the individual
client. Please ask Laurie Anne or her husband and partner John about
anything you don’t understand.
What is Microdermabrasion and How Does it Work?
What is microdermabrasion or resurfacing? …If you could remove
that outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells, you would see that
just below the surface lies a fresher younger looking you! That’s
exactly what microdermabrasion treatments can do for you. By gently,
precisely exfoliating (removing) the top layer of your skin over
a couple of weekly sessions, you can wisk away years of buildup
revealing a more beautiful you!
Traditionally Microdermabrasion has worked by blasting aluminum
oxide particles in a stream of air across the face using a type
of “skin vacuum cleaner.” In the Esthetics Industry
this is referred to as “sandblasting the face!”
Numerous studies published by various Health Journals and the US
Government about health hazards with exposure to fine Aluminum-Oxide
dust is going to make these “sandblasting machines”
obsolete. Do keep in mind that Aluminum-Oxide crystals are also
a metal substance in the form of small dust particles. The biggest
danger with these small aluminum particles is when they enter the
lungs through the breathing of contaminated air. The second big
danger is the damage caused to the eyes from loose particles accidentally
being blown into your eyes.
At Laurie Anne’s Skin Care we are leading the way with the
latest technology in Microdermabrasion. The DiamondSkin
– Particle Free - Microdermabrasion/Oxygen Machine
is the most advanced resurfacing machine available on the market
today. This is “The New Standard in Skin Rejuvenation!”
Microdermabrasion is an age old treatment that has been adapted,
modernized and made easier with the DiamondSkin system. This improved
method is superior to particle microdermabrasion and chemical peels
in its results, without the adverse effects of loose Aluminum-Oxide
dust particles, skin irritation, and other adverse skin reactions.
Unlike other exfoliation treatments, the DiamondSkin system uses
no loose abrasives to contaminate you or the environment.
The DiamondSkin technology utilizes a hand held wand. In the tip
of the wand is embedded, natural diamond chips sifted to exact micro
size. This effectively polishes away dead skin layers to expose
healthier skin and promote new growth. Safe for all skin types,
this treatment is virtually pain free and leaves your skin feeling
silky smooth.
As there are no Aluminum dust particles being propelled against
the skin, the DiamondSkin System allows us to treat areas closer
to the eyes along with those fine lines and wrinkles around the
lips.
The DiamondSkin Microdermabrasion wand has the exfoliating action
of diamond chips, the stimulating action of vacuum, and the re-hydrating
effects of oxygenated air all the while leaving your skin fresher
and healthier, with an enhanced surface quality.
Bonus with a DiamondSkin Microdermabrasion…”Oxygen Facial”
The DiamondSkin Microdermabrasion is the only system in the world
that uses Oxygen Infusion Technology to help speed up collagen production
and soothe the newly exfoliated skin. The underlying epidermis is
also stimulated by abrasion and the vacuum. This promotes the next
generation of new collagen and reveals new living skin cells, which
thickens the dermis and improves resistance to the effects of ageing
The Benefits of DiamondSkin Resurfacing
Microdermabrasion is a wonderful alternative to laser or chemical
peels because it is non-invasive, non-surgical and requires no down
time after the treatment. Normal activities may be resumed immediately.
Where traditional aluminum oxide particles are sharper and exfoliate
in a more “cutting” way, the Diamonds provide a more
“polishing down” approach to exfoliation. Since Diamonds
are less aggressive they provide the opportunity for more frequent
treatments, thereby taking advantage of the below your skin effects,
such as collagen stimulation, blood circulation, oxygenation and
cleansing lymphatic flow. Your skin will have a radiant glow, free
of irritation and loose particles. Our clients experience softer,
smoother, cleaner skin after the first treatment. Treatment series
vary from four to six sessions depending on the condition being
treated and the type of skin. DiamondSkin resurfacing works well
on;
- Sun-damaged skin – face, neck, shoulders
- Reduction of minor to moderate early ageing fine lines –
eyes, forehead
- Minor scar revision
- Hyper pigmentation reduction
- Overall rejuvenation of skin health
- Blending of cosmetic surgery or laser treatments
- Reduction of acne scarring
- Age spots – hands, face
This procedure is at times used in combination with chemical peels.
Microdermabrasion is not suitable for deeper wrinkles and old scars,
deep hyper pigmentation problems or broken veins in the skin.
What happens during the treatment and how long will it take to recover?
During your initial consultation you should clearly set out your
expectations to see if they can be met.
The skin is cleansed prior to the treatment. The wand of the DiamondSkin
is passed over the skin in smooth, stroking movements. The degree
of effectiveness is controlled by a widely adjustable vacuum in
conjunction with the varying coarseness of the wands.
We are trained to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment while
at the same time ensuring your comfort.
DiamondSkin treatments are fast, virtually pain free and leave
little or no redness. Your skin will look more vibrant with a smoother
polished feel even after the first treatment. Your skin will continue
to improve with additional treatments.
Treatments usually take around 45 minutes, but stretch marks can
take as long as two hours to treat. Most clients find they can return
to work immediately after treatment.
Follow-up Treatment
This treatment can be repeated every week or so for a series of
four to six sessions. Maintenance treatments can then be scheduled
every three or four months.

A medical history will be taken, to ensure you qualify for this
treatment. Some Contraindications would be:

Summary
Brighter, clearer and more evenly toned skin is waiting for you
in as little as 4 to 6 treatments. Over time this repeated process
stimulates the production of a new layer of skin cells, bringing
with it an increased level of collagen and elastin, which further
improves your skins appearance.
Microdermabrasion can also be an effective option for improving
the appearance of stretch marks and other scars on the skin.
